PLAYER - Current Line Up
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - April 13, 2017 - PRLog -- Rock'n Blues Concert Series is ready to rock summer solstice when Diane & The Deductibles host PLAYER, veterans of the classic, breezy California sound. Featuring founders Peter Beckett and Ronn Moss; Buster Akrey, Rob Math; and Burleigh Drummond (from AMBROSIA).

Diane Adams, series producer and
Diane & The Deductibles lead singer, is a strong advocate supporting the music industry. She developed this series in June 2014 especially for the OC community, at the Huntington Beach Library Theater. Diane, a member of The Huntington Beach Library Patrons Foundation as well as many other Huntington Beach community groups, initiated the Children's wing expansion that included this library theater. The theater is an intimate 319-seat setting with perfect sight lines and acoustics. More than a concert, the Rock'n Blues Concert Series offers a total music lover experience in a scenic venue, Red Carpet photo opportunities, food and drink and post-show meet and greet with the band.

PLAYER was formed in 1977 by UK native Peter Beckett who came to the U.S. after playing for years in The popular English band Paladin. The band was born at a chance meeting between Peter and J.C. Crowley when they met at a classic Hollywood White Party and were the only two dressed in jeans and t-shirts. Ronn Moss joined next, bringing in his high school bandmate John Friesen. From there the band honed their style of soft pop rock, with mellow keyboards and layered harmonies.

To get noticed, they did it the rock 'n roll brick and mortar way – they played LA clubs and bars, went around to producers' offices to play live, hauling their own gear. The band's theory was that "a demo tape can be thrown on a shelf and forgotten, whereas a live band wouldn't fit."

This focus served them well and before long they were signed by legend Robert Stigwood of RSO Records. Their first gig was opening for Gino Vanelli; next they went out with Boz Scaggs and it was during this tour that 'Baby Come Back' charted number one on Billboard and internationally for 35 weeks.

Player Story - check out this history with great interviews and stories from the band.

They continued to tour arenas in the classic Bill Graham-promoter style, with everyone from Eric Clapton on his Slow Hand Tour, to Heart, Little River Band and Kenny Loggins. Album three, ROOM WITH A VIEW, yielded Top 40 hit "It's For You" on Neil Bogart's legendary Casablanca Records (KISS, Donna Summer, Village People, Cher, Parliament featuring George Clinton). They also worked on their own projects, each of them having successful careers in everything from film/TV scoring, producing, music software to soap opera stardom (Ronn Moss, Bold & The Beautiful).

1995 was the first time Peter and Ronn performed again as PLAYER, connecting originally to work on Ronn's solo record; instead they put out PLAYER'S fifth LP, LOST IN REALITY, which earned them a nomination for Best Independent Album Production at the LA Music Awards. The chemistry remained and since then PLAYER continues to record and tour the US and internationally. We look forward to kicking off summer with this great, enduring band.

1970s song stays catchy with mop commercial

Last updated on 01/28/2009 at 7:01 p.m.

“Swiffer Mop and Swiffer Sweeper Vac do it all...” including bringing back the 1970s hit “Baby Come Back.”

Who knew that a commercial about a mop could be so entertaining? With over eight different commercials for the Sweeper Vac, Swiffer is able to captivate audiences each time with silly antics and a catchy song. And the voices behind the tune?

In 1978, Player released its self-titled first album which included an upbeat one-hit wonder, “Baby Come Back.” The song quickly rose to number one on the pop singles charts, and the record went gold.

When singer Peter Beckett first formed Player, he probably had no idea that years after the band’s last concert tours this song would make such a great comeback. Swiffer has taken the song and revamped it to be sung by mariachi player mops and brooms in order to sell their product in a creatively fun way.

So, what happens when a one-hit wonder and a moping mop combine? One extremely funny commercial.

Two long-time out of print albums Think Out Loud - S/T, Clif Magness - Solo are reissued!

July 18, 2009

A newly founded label based in Munich Germany, YESTERROCK started to reissue records that either haven’t been available for years or previously only released on vinyl but not on CD yet. The label gains essential support in the search for these hidden treasures from both UNIVERSAL and SONY amongst others. Various independent label’s and artist’s contributions also help that CD’s now can be released which lately - in particular cases - only have been available in used and overpriced status on common internet platforms such as Amazon and Ebay. On June 24, 2009, two noteworthy albums have been reissued.

One is "Think Out Loud - s/t" and the other is " Clif Magness -Solo".

Think Out Loud

"Think Out Loud" are a studio project featuring singer Peter Beckett best known for his group Player and Steve Kipner also known for his great solo album "Knock The Walls Down". They released the self-titled album in 1988 for A&M Records, with the remarkable additional musicians including Steve Lukather, Randy Goodrum, Tris Imboden, Bob Marlette and Michael Landau. Beckett and Kipner shared lead vocals through out the album and the album should be one of the best AOR works done in late 80's.

There's not any releases as "Think Out Loud" before 1997. It was really surprising incident that MTM Records, Germany convinced Peter and Steve to produce a follow-up album and "Shelf Life" was released, which featured eleven brilliant songs including the original version of "Invisible Man" performed by 98 Degrees, which ranked on number 12 Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart dated September 27, 1997.

Wham! The rocket launched with a flying start. Skyband blasts high into the international charts within thre
e months.
The title, which is a real tongue twister, "Bang, Ooh! Ya Got Me", enters the American charts into the top 20, with success of the three newly baked teen stars that they could never have imagined. Who are these three guys who are called the new David Cassidy and other Rock idols?

FM visited the cheerful trio in
Los Angeles. We met them at a swimming pool of Mrs. Jay, a nice old lady, where Steve, Lane and Peter had rented their apartment. But meanwhile, they have their own home and frequently visit the cozy villa of Mother Jay, who takes care of the boys.

The members of Skyband are Steve Kipner (26), born 14th December in Brisbane (Australia), Peter Beckett, born August 10th,1948 in Liverpool, and Lane Caudell (23) from Ashbore, North Carolina. Lane not only is the junior of the band, but also the tallest. The other two admit: "The girls are crazy for him". With just a smile, his long time girlfriend Maria appears: "the fans shouldn't be too close to him."

Peter and Steve already worked together in London. Steve was a member of Tin Tin, well known for their hit "Toast and Marmalade for Tea". Lane ran into them in 1973. The extraordinary thing about this band is they all play guitar, and hired studio musicians for their recordings.

With pride, Mrs Jay points one thing out, that the music of Skyband compares with the music of the Beatles. But so much praise makes the guys uncomfortable. "That's way out of our league," tells Lane. "We're trying to make great melodic things, but the Beatles are unbeatable."
